To be honest, I had zero knowledge of Yangon / Myanmar besides the famous pagodas and Aung San Suu Kyi.
It was a rather impromptu decision to make a weekend trip to Yangon, for a taste of the Burmese culture. 初到缅甸，我爱上了饭店里这道Shan Noodles Salad。虽然我不知道它是否道地，但是对于缅甸饮食非常陌生的我，它真的挺美味的。
Do remember to get your visa done. If you are traveling direct from Singapore, you can fly via Singapore Airlines, Silkair or Tigerair. I had a discount via Tigerair, so I spent $193.60 on the return air tickets.
It’s convenient to change your currency into kyats, upon arrival at the Yangon Airport. Alternatively, bring some extra USD.
East Hotel was recommended by a friend who was in & out of Yangon quite a few times last year. It’s reasonably priced, conveniently located and the rooms and breakfast are both decent ($61.65 per person per night, inclusive of breakfast).
先把签证办好 （新加坡的朋友，请点击这里for tips)，再找找机票。
朋友推荐East Hotel, 价钱合理，出入方便。
The room’s pretty spacious for two, and the most valuable service we found was the massage service at the basement of the hotel, which opens till around 11pm. Massage for 2 hours cost approx 10USD, which we looked forward to come back to, after a day of exploration in Yangon.
The hotel staff were pretty friendly and accommodating. Hotel guests can choose from a list of items from the breakfast menu, which included Western and Burmese variations. I chose the Shan Noodles Salad, which resembled our local Mee Pok. It was delightful, but I wasn’t so sure if it was truly a local dish after I did some research online.
On the second day, there wasn’t Shan Noodles, so I ordered a simple fried Bee Hoon with a poached egg. You can’t go wrong with this combination.
If you crave for a latte, it’s a top up of 3USD. Otherwise, normal coffee and tea are served with the breakfast.
I’ve been pretty sluggish, traveling more than I’ve been writing recently. More on the Burmese street food in the upcoming posts. Stay tuned.
