街角的咖啡香|Toby’s Estate Sydney

它,并不起眼,坐落在寂静的街角。冬天早晨,我沿着街道走着,闻着咖啡香,来到了Toby’s Estate咖啡学院。

joojourneys_sydney_tobys_opp对于Toby’s Estate,我久仰大名。人在悉尼,不探访也太对不起自己。

I was brimming with excitement as I walked down the streets of Sydney, finding my way to Toby’s Estate’s on a sunny winter morning.

Nope, I wasn’t going for any barista training, but having heard loads of good things about Singapore’s Toby’s Estate, I told myself I had to make a trip down to the origin when I landed in Sydney.

After a fifteen minutes stroll, passing by awesome parks, churches and pretty buildings, I spotted the small corner shop with customers standing around with a coffee in their hand, chatting away.

The sound of chatter and the aromatic smell of coffee awakened my senses. Ah, there it was, the bustling Toby’s Estate, nestled in a corner of a quiet neighbourhood.

Founder Toby Smith first purchased a coffee roaster and installed in his mum’s Woolloomooloo garage. This cafe in Woolloomooloo is the original and also the Expresso School where aspiring baristas can get trained. joojourneys_sydney_tobys_schoolThe interior is filled with coffee-related doodles, full of creativity and buzz. joojourneys_sydney_tobys_interior_1 joojourneys_sydney_tobys_doodlesOne piccolo latte and one roasted beef sandwich (approx 15 AUD) to start the day. I had a hard time finishing that giant although it was absolutely delicious and fulfilling on a winter morning! The latte was smooth, really fragrant and I loved every bit till the last sip (yes, I’m not joking). joojourneys_sydney_tobys_flatwhite_food

I’m pretty much still a fan and visited Toby’s Estate when I came back to Singapore. A totally different atmosphere here in Sunny Singapore, and I do think that I still very much prefer that “dingy” little corner cafe at Woolloomoolo 🙂

And what’s the best way to explore Sydney after an awesome breakfast? Take a walk up to Surry hills. It’s pretty quaint and you can find quite some vintage stuff in this area. Walking about in Sydney is pretty manageable in winter, when it’s not raining.
