位于东海岸路（East Coast Road）的Village Hotel Katong, 虽然外表陈旧，室内的装横经过翻新后，勃有娘惹风味，整体上感觉前卫有不失温馨的气氛。Long gone were the days of joining in the New Year Eve’s countdown action in town for me.
Finding a location locally in Singapore to spend some time with your friends or family is challenging too. You can choose to host your friends, but the idea of having to clean up after a late night party is pretty unbearably. Hence, a staycation is probably the next best solution for most!
Nestled in the quaint Katong area, Village Hotel Katong blends in well and I was a little worried as I looked at the building from afar. The interior looked much more promising I swear.
The Katong V mall attached to the hotel provides some grocery shopping (Fairprice Finest), and some food options too, but nothing else too exciting.
It is a stone’s throw from many amazing eateries along the street, less than 200m walk from 112 Katong if you fancy a movie or some shopping. Head over to Parkway Parade found across the road if you prefer more shopping or dining options.
For those who would like to visit the beach, it’s probably a 15 min drive to East Coast Park.
I preferred the homely feel of the room, as compared to Quincy. The little Peranakan touch to room and the amber lights give it a warm cosy feeling. The bathroom was simple, there was no Molten Brown toiletries this time round. Nevertheless, the set provided had a great white tea fragrance. The minibar consisted of yummy nut snacks and some drinks. We had a little balcony which we thought we may be able to view the fireworks from Marina Bay! Disappointment set in as we heard the roars, but was blocked by the building in front of us. (Tip: you may be able to view the fireworks from the pool instead!)
The pool was located at level 2, it didn’t have a spectacular view unlike that of Quincy, but it was decent enough for a lazy swim and pool side tanning. Breakfast was an interesting mix of local delights and western favourites. Village Katong Hotel is pretty much a laid back staycation option in the east of Singapore.
Probably not a bad option too if you are traveling to Singapore and wish to stay somewhere near the airport, but not at the airport hotel.
