From Seoul to Jeju: A simple guide |

I’ve gotten this question quite a bit and thought it will be nice to pen it down for the convenience of the readers. How do I travel from Seoul to Jeju?

There are 2 domestic low cost carriers that you can consider, both are pretty decent from my own experience (Eastar Jet), and my friends’ experience (Jeju Air).

It’s pretty easy to get to Jeju once you are in Seoul. Take the subway to domestic airport – Gimpo Airport, catch a flight to Jeju which takes you around an hour. Online reservation and purchase of the tickets must be made at the same time.

Special fares can go as low as 19,900 won if you don’t mind later timings for departure, but you will need to check the distance from the airport to your lodging, which can be as far as 2 hours away by car.

2. Eastar Jet

joojourneys_Eastar JetTo ensure that you have sufficient time to check out most of the sights and sounds, do cater for a 3-night stay in Jeju as most scenic spots close around 6pm, and the time taken to travel between each destination varies between one to two hours. You may want to cater some time for sitting around and chilling too.

For reference only (fuel surcharge and taxes may have changed since then), my return Eastar Jet tickets cost me SGD150 (131,000 won) with taxes all inclusive, for a 8am flight out to Jeju (Monday), and 2.20pm flight back to Gimpo (Thursday) when I booked them about 45 days prior to departure.

Here’s a comparison for Jeju Air and Eastar Jet for departure tickets in early April 2014, seems like Jeju Air has better pricing at a glance :)

I would definitely recommend self-driving in Jeju, but do remember to apply for your international driving license from the Automobile Association of Singapore (AA) prior to departure. It takes up to 5 working days for approval, so I suggest you do it at least two to four weeks prior to departure.

If you have time or need your license urgently, you can drop by either GB Point (Kallang Bahru) or Pearls Centre (珠光大厦 at Eu Tong Sen Street).
